POO: LOOSE STOOLS

OK, we are moving away from constipation and towards the other end of the stool spectrum ....LOOSE STOOLS or DIARRHOEA...

...and NO, I am not talking about acute cases of gastroenteritis, food poisoning, or any type of infectious diarrhoea.

Look at the BRISTOL STOOL CHART TYPES 5-7 (see attached picture)

** I am talking about those of you who are passing SOFT, mushy or SHAPELESS stools on a REGULAR basis. You may also have a sense of URGENCY or incomplete EVACUATION.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH LOOSE STOOLS?

When food passes through the digestive tract too quickly, there is not enough time for proper digestion and absorption of essential nutrients. If this carries on for an extended period of time, it may result in nutrient deficiencies.

REMEMBER: If you have had any recent changes in your stool frequency, consistency or colour and/or there is blood in your stools please see your doctor.
